“Joseph Southall - A Late Romantic” in association with Sarah Colegrave Fine Art
12th-27th May 2026
Exhibition at 6 Mason's Yard, Duke Street, St James's, London SW1Y 6BU
This summer exhibition at 6 Mason's Yard is a retrospective of the painter Joseph Southall. A leading figure in the Birmingham art scene at the turn-of-the-twentieth century and key figure in the revival of tempera painting, Southall is an important link between art of the late Pre Raphaelite period and Modern British. Our show will be the first retrospective on the artist since the Fortunoff Collection at the Fine Art Society over twenty years ago.
The exhibition is presented alongside a fully illustrated catalogue with over sixty paintings, drawings and watercolours. The core of the group is a collection of work from descendants of Southall's cousin in Banbury, Isabel Harlock and includes previously unseen drawings and illustrated letters.
