William Scott (1913 - 1989) Cornish Harbour - Mousehole.

Description

William Scott (1913 - 1989)
Cornish Harbour - Mousehole. 1951

Lithograph. Signed W. Scott, 1955, Artists proof.

This rare print from the edition of 60 was printed at Corsham where Scott taught and Henry Cliffe was Head of printmaking. The print relates to a series of harbour compositions that Scott painted around this time and are seen as an important development in his reductionist approach to image making, where the edge of a harbour wall, the shape of a tethered boat, the horizon, is reduced to a series of minimal, almost abstract forms.
This particular print, held back by Scott as an artists proof, was gifted by him and held in a private collection in Edinburgh for decades. It was then sold on their behalf by the Scottish Gallery.
