Description

Chinese 17th century late Ming Transitional Blue and White porcelain kraak punch bowl. Made at the kilns at Jingdezhen for export to the Netherlands with the Dutch east India Company.
Painted to the outside with six large panels showing a mountainous river landscape some with fishermen in boats or figures on a bridge. The panels are separated by smaller panels with a geometric top border from which ribbons hang below.
the inside is painted to the sides with large panels of fruiting peach sprays separated by smaller panels with a geometric border at the top below a design of dots and circles. The central panel to the center is painted with a large jardinière with a flowering peony.
Difficult to find a dating example in the Book by Rinaldi on Kraak porcelain but it falls into the area of c1630
When the potter made the bowl he has knocked the rim with the finishing 'straw' so making it appear to be a chip on the rim but this is very definitely glazed when it was made so a potters fault.

Diameter: 36.00cm (14.17 inches)

Condition

Overall very good expected area of frits and loss of glaze on the rim

Date

Circa 1630

Price

£5,750.00
