Description

Chinese Late Ming Blue and White tri pod compressed form censer. Made at the kilns at Jingdezhen at the end of the Ming Dynasty during the reign of the Emperor Chongzhen c1630
The censer is painted with with panels of egrets amidst lotus flowers in an aquatic scene. The panels are divided by a blue ground area with shou signs and flower heads.
Censers were filled with 'sand' and used for joss stick or other small tapers to stand in.
In a few areas there blue doesn't seem to have adhered to the body, this is usually caused by dust being in the way of the paint and glaze.
By repute it was purchased in Christies London
