Description

Ming - 1600-1625 - blue and white kraak bowl made at Jingdezhen during the reign of the Emperor Wanli for export to the Netherlands with The Dutch East India Company.
Painted in panels to the outside with different plants and landscape scenes and each panel is seperated by smaller panels of dots..
The inside shows a bird, referred to in the west as the crow, standing on rock work with flowers around it. The inside sides are painted again with flowers separated by narrow panels of dots.
The rim is barbed and slightly everted while the body is lightly moulded to enhance the panels
Made for export kraak was not for the Chinese home market so often the potting is less refined but this bowl is well potted with a few firing flaws to the foot rim
A very good example of type
In Kraak Porcelain by Maura Rinaldi the bowl is type IV.1
