Description

Chinese early 18th century blue and white porcelain bowl made during the reign of the Emperor Kangxi - 1662-1722 - at the kilns at Jingdezhen. With the rim everted like this bowl the shape is often referred to as a klapmuts bowl. it was thought that the Europeans like the flat rim as it allowed eating utensils to lodge against it
The painting is of ladies at leisure in a garden setting with rock work, fringed willow and a jumping boy it is thought that it is a stylized vision of the story of Cheng he
Both the top and underside of the rim is painted with auspicious Taoist emblems. the inside painted with 2 jumping boys
The foot has a six character apocryphal Cheng H'ua mark but not a deceptive mark
