Newent is a small market town about 8 miles north-west of Gloucester on the northern edge of the Forest of Dean.

There has been a settlement here since at least Roman times, and the town first appeared in the Domesday Book.

Newent is home to the Birds of Prey Centre, and has several houses of historical interest. It also contains the largest cul-de-sac in Europe, Foley Road.

In September each year the town hosts an onion fayre, at which there are competitions for growing and eating onions.
