Cirencester

The earliest known reference to this important Roman town, known as Corinium, was by Ptolemy in AD 150, and the Corinium Museum is well known for its extensive Roman collection.

Cirencester lies on the River Churn, and is home to the Royal Agricultural College, founded in 1840, which is the oldest agricultural college in the English speaking world.

The Cirencester area played an important role in the Arts & Crafts Movement in the Cotswolds.

Today’s Cirencester has a flourishing tourist trade as well as providing shopping, entertainment and sports facilities for the inhabitants of the town and the surrounding areas.
