The Ages of Oak, Walnut, Mahogany and Satinwood Furniture |

| A Recent Exhibition Room Setting |
In Percy Macquoid’s History of English Furniture, the 20 parts were published in 4 volumes titled ‘The Ages of Oak, Walnut, Mahogany & Satinwood’. A century after its publication we will illustrate these themes with carefully selected pieces shown in period room settings from the 17th to the 19th centuries. The title for our exhibition is from William Wordsworth’s evocative poem ‘Nutting’ published in 1800, ‘with gentle hand touch - for there is a spirit in the woods’.
