Brass Bound and Portable
Campaign Furniture and Travel Items of the 18th, 19th and early 20th Centuries |

| An Early 19th Century Teak, Anglo-Indian Campaign Chest |
Brass Bound and Portable perhaps sums up the ‘look’ of campaign furniture. Most people will recognise a campaign chest from these attributes and the use of brass corners on mahogany or teak has a pleasing quality that suggests an exotic past. However, there is a great deal of campaign furniture that is not so immediately recognizable. Tables and chairs that look exactly like their domestic equivalent of the period but on closer inspection reveal a locking bolt, removable legs or a hinge in an unexpected position.
This exhibition will show a number of pieces obviously made for travel as well as many that hide there practicality.
A fully illustrated catalogue will be available. |
