This work was bought and exhibited at the Portal Gallery in 1988 where her paintings were displayed for more than 30 years and where, in 2006, a comprehensive exhibition to celebrate her 80th birthday was held.

Reminiscent of Stanley Spencer, Cook’s figures recall his bulky, fleshy, hyper realist figures. By linking herself to Spencer she establishes herself within the art historical cannon. Stanley Spencer was an English painter and one of the most original figures in 20th-century British art. He is best known for pictures in which he set biblical events in his own village and for his highly stylised figures.
