Trouvain was an engraver, publisher and printer in Paris. Trained by Edilinck, he was made an Academician in 1707.
This engraving was made as his 'reception' piece for the Academy.

Engraving, 1707, after the self-portrait painted by Jouvenet the year he was made one of the four perpetual rectors of Académie Royale in 1707.

Jouvenet (1644-1717) was born in Rouen into a family of painters and sculptors. He settled in Paris in 1661 and worked with Charles le Brun at Versailles.
From 1676 he taught at the Paris Academy and was appointed Professor in 1681.
