Kizil Ayak main carpet woven in Turkmenistan in the middle of the 19th century with a field design of four columns of twelve 'tauk nuska guls' as the primary elements.
Main carpets were an important part of the wedding ceremonies in all Turkoman tribes, and they were a demonstration of the wealth and importance of the bride's family within their tribal grouping. This is why the best quality of wool and dyes and superior skill went into the weaving of these dowry pieces. In this carpet, the wool has a silky, silvery sheen and a most luxurious softness to the touch.
It is an early and excellent original example of tribal weaving and an asset of classic elegance to any home.
