The three-panel lid, with an intricate run-moulded frame, retains the original large butterfly hinges, and opens to reveal an interior with an interesting “candle-box” or “till”, with a concealed compartment.

The three front panels, which have a triple-moulded edge, are carved with a central lozenge, set within stylised fern leaves, which have tiny whorls in the corners. The carver then exuberantly set about decorating the frame, muntins and end panels with delicate chip carving and “chain” decoration, which is typical of the Salisbury area.
