An 8 day oak Longcased Clock. There is a shell motif inlaid into the door. The hood has a broken pediment which is unusually pierced and Corinthian columns either side of the face which is painted with flora in each corner. The maker is George Claridge of Chepstow, Wales. George Claridge was a clock and watchmaker who had a business in Chepstow from about 1817 until 1861. He was born around 1796 in Chepstow and died in 1861 age 67. He worked from premises in Bridge Street, later moved to Davies Court and then to St. Mary Street. George produced both 30 hour and 8 day long case clocks.
