Description / Expertise

Engraving, 1593, after a drawing by Jacopo Bassano.
(Reference Hollstein 43, de Ramaix 32a)
Christ having supper is relegated to the extreme right of the print while the foreground concentrates on the details of a contemporary kitchen.
This was one of three engravings of biblical scenes by the Sadeler family showing kitchen interiors and food preparation and therefore known as 'Les Cuisines des Sadelers' (the Sadeler kitchens).
