About Palais-Royal antiques:

Some of the finest needlework boxes were made in Paris and sold at the Palais-Royal. In 1780 Louis Phillipe II took control of the Palais-Royal and in 1784 converted part of the palace into a huge shopping & entertainment arcade. Only retailers with the highest quality items were permitted to sell their goods there. The palace soon became one of the most desirable places to see and be seen at in Paris and attracted visitors from all social classes and circles, including authors, french revolutionaries, composers, and freemasons.
