Description / Expertise
Mary Ann Dowdeswell inscribed her sampler as being worked in the eigth year of her age, telling us she was seven at the time of stitching. Worked in brilliantly coloured silks
this is a remarkable piece of work for so young a child.
Mary Ann was baptised at St Mary Magdalen, Bermondsey, Southwark on the 18th March 1772.
