Description / Expertise

Original etching 1911 (Reference Hausberg 98)
and original 'etched' frame 1907-08 (Reference Hausberg 166)
The etching trimmed, as usual, to the plate except for a 'tab' for the pencil signature. Roussel holidayed in Cornwall in 1911.
Roussel was exceptional in etching patterned strips which he cut to form paper segments to glue onto wooden mouldings to make the finished complementary frame to some of his etchings. Only about 10 frames in each design were ever made and it is not known how many have survived. They are rarely found. The frame has an etched signature on each return side.
(The reflection of the photographer is just visible in the glass of the frame)
