Oil Painting entitled 'Back Lane' by artist Alan Stenhouse Gourley ROI 1909-1991. He studied at the Glasgow School of Art in 1928, Edinburgh college of art 1929-31 and taught at Johannesburg college in south africa before studying at Ecole des Beaux-arts in Paris 1938-40, the Slade School of Fine Art in London. Gourley was president of the ROI and his work in included in the Queen Mothers collection. The Gourley award is annually presented by the ROI. This painting shows his love of light and shadows.
