Description / Expertise
Ref:23233
This handsome Game Book supplied by the Army and Navy Stores is made from leather with silver mounts, gilt tooling to the inside border and gilt edges. The silver mounts show the London Hallmark for 1908. A silver plaque on the front has the Initial W.T. from C.R.M. 1.10.08. The entries in this book from Sep 7th 1881 to January 31st 1921 were extracted from the game books and diaries at Bridwell by J.W.C.(Bridwell Park, Uffculme Devon). The reference to names and ignitial in the book suggest that the book was presented to William Tanner from Charles R. Mortimore. There is a newspaper clipping from the Times, containing a tribute to Mr. Charles Collier whose name is frequently mentioned. According to the clipping he was a celebrated sportsman in many fields including playing Rugby for England.
